HIT THE GROUND RUNNING THIS JANUARY Let's chat about how to successfully set goals and the do's and don't's of creating goals for yourself this year!
GOAL SETTING 101
Setting regular SMART goals for yourself is a necessity. It's something you should be doing continuously throughout the year and NOT just at the start of the New Year. SMART stands for Specific, Measurable, Attainable, Relevant and Time-Based. This is crucial to our growth because it makes the goal real and tangible.
My goals heading into January are simple:
Get back into the routine of working out 5 days a week. 3 strength days and 2 running days.
Complete 15 pull ups in a row before my wedding on May 24th.
I hope these tips help you to write some real tangible goals this year. Let's make your goals real! Share them with me and tag them on social media with the hashtags #SoFit & #TrainLikeAnAthlete so we can hold each other accountable this year!
Take your time and give some good thought to what you's like to accomplish.
Set yourself a completion date, without it, you won't have the accountability.
Share your goals with your close friends and ask them to share theirs. Community is so powerful and you'll know that you're not alone on this journey.
Write them down and put them in a place where you'll see them everyday. I have mine on my bathroom mirror and a sticky note on my computer screen.
Make conscious decisions everyday that will help you accomplish your goals. If your decision isn't going to help you why do it?
Set an arbitrary goal with no substance. For example: In 2020 I want to run faster. Instead try: By June 1st I want to improve my 5k time by 10 seconds. This makes the goal real and attainable.
Give yourself more than 3 goals to work towards at a time. More than 3 goals becomes very challenging to manage. When you complete 1 goal replace it with another.
Get discouraged if you don't hit your goal. Sometimes we set goals that we're not totally ready for or life happens and we don't accomplish them. That is OKAY! Start small and be flexible with your journey.
